My Thoughts Heading Into Week 6

Our preparation is the same as it is every other week, but in the back of our heads, we know we need to win this game. We’re 1-4 right now, and we need to get the train rolling in the right direction. It starts with this week. Win this week and then move on to the next week, but first and foremost, we have to beat the Bills.

It can be tough playing in a different time zone, but Coach Kelly has done a great job preparing us to play in Buffalo on Sunday. We get on the field every day around 10:30 a.m. to get used to getting up early and being prepared for that early game. It will be a 10:00 a.m. kickoff on the West Coast, so coaches prepared us by telling us to make sure we get our sleep and stay hydrated during the long flight.

Buffalo is doing a great job running the ball right now. Between the quarterback and the running back, the Bills rank third in the NFL in rushing yards, so we know that’s how they’ll attack us. We must be able to stop the run and make the Bills throw the ball, and we must force turnovers. A tough task considering the Bills have only two turnovers all season, but our group is up to the challenge.

Colin Kaepernick will get the nod at quarterback for us this week. The guys in the locker room support the team, and whoever is at quarterback we are going to support that guy. The decision was made at the beginning of the year to go with Blaine Gabbert, and we stood by him, and when the coaches made the decision to go with Colin, we will stand by him. At the end of the day, we are a team and we will support the decisions our coaching staff makes. I’m excited for Kaep, and I’m happy for him, and we need to just go out there and play football. I’ll certainly be rooting for Colin from the sideline, and hopefully we can put our offense in a position to put some points up and win this game.

It’s a one-week season for us, and that’s how we are going to have to treat the rest of this year. Nothing matters but this Sunday. If we want to make the playoffs, it starts with beating the Bills. We have to go to Buffalo and take care of business.
